It Started With a Dead Winch
Somewhere on a spur road in the Gifford Pinchot, in about four inches of Pacific Northwest clay, a winch that had been advertised as "waterproof" filled up with water and stopped being a winch. It became a very heavy paperweight bolted to the front of a very stuck quad.
That walk out was long enough to think about a few things. Mainly: the spec sheet said everything except the thing that mattered. There was no IP rating anywhere on the box.
What We Figured Out
The more we looked, the more we noticed the same pattern across the whole category. The parts that fail in the field fail for boring, predictable reasons:
- Light bars die because the circuit board was never potted, so vibration walks a solder joint loose.
- Winches die because the motor housing and solenoid were never really sealed.
- Skid plates crack because the aluminum was too thin for the span between frame mounts.
- Goggles get thrown out because the face foam was single-layer and let dust straight through.
None of that is exotic engineering. It is all knowable before you buy — if someone bothers to ask the question and print the answer.
So That's the Job
OffroadGearPro exists to ask those questions before we stock something, and to put the answers on the product page. Sometimes that means telling you the cheaper option is the smarter buy. Sometimes it means telling you the tire you want will cook your belt.
We would rather lose a sale than process a return, and we would much rather lose a sale than have someone get hurt because a recovery strap was rated for a number that came from marketing.
Where We Are
Vancouver, WA — online orders only, no walk-in counter. Which means the Cascade foothills, the coast range, and a great deal of wet clay are our test conditions. Gear that only works in dry desert sand tends not to last long on our shelves.
